Seven Quick Takes, ___________ Edition

  1. I’m having trouble coming up with a snappy name for this week’s edition of 7QT. There are lots of titles I could use, but I’m hesitant to pick one now because the thoughts in my head are very random at the moment and I feel like choosing a title will hem me in, as if everything in the post would then have to actually relate to it in some way. Which is why I refuse to use “Snoverkill” or “Snowmageddon” or really any other word containing the letters S-N-O, because frankly I am tired of talking about the snow. The ---w.
  2. Although—and now I’m one of those annoying people who says “I’m not going to talk about X” and then immediately proceeds to talk about it, I hope we can still be friends—I just want to say, for the record, that there is a seven-foot pile of ---w in the front yard. Seven. Feet.
  3. Jumping back to the title crisis: once in ninth grade I wrote a paper for English Lit, printed it out, turned it in, and then realized that I’d never come up with an actual title, which meant I’d never changed the placeholder I’d put on the first page, which meant I turned in a paper entitled “Title.” Genius.
  4. In re. my petite crisis from earlier this week, all I have to say is: trust my dad to write three sentences and immediately straighten me out. It struck me that the –er he pointed out has much more to do with who I am than with what I do. Identity, not activity. Huh.
  5. Did y’all catch the Dominican Sisters of Mary on Oprah? I never watch Oprah, but the Sisters of Mary are one of my favorite communities in the world, so I made a point of watching it. I thought the feature was well done and fascinating and the sisters, as always, were beautiful and intelligent. You can catch at least part of the piece here. And for the record? Yes. They truly are that joyful in real life.
  6. Il Metro? It is une hot mess. A Red Line train derailed today, and one of my roommates was in a train earlier this week that caught on fire. (Everyone is okay.) Have I mentioned yet how grateful I am to NOT be in the city right now?
  7. Look what my sister got me for my birthday!

  1. Dude! I went on a vocation retreat with those same sisters when I was freshman in college.

We stayed at their convent and everything.

It was so much fun and a great experience.

:) They are so sweet. And awesome.

  2. I love that you turned in a paper with the title Title. At least you didn't do what one of my friends did and turn in a paper with a fake placeholder name for a professor... they really don't like that!

  3. Trust parents to put you straight. I have come to appreciate mine much more since I grew up and went out on my own. I realized how everything they did and taught me growing up was intended for my good even if I could not see it at the time. And if that were not enough, they still keep dropping pearls of wisdom on me, lo these many years later!
